My name is Siyu Lei, born and raised in Zhengzhou, Henan province of China. The past two years, I worked in the development and digital communication sectors in Yangon, Myanmar, an experience that propelled me to focus on the emerging countries and find out how they can be better off by being more informed and connected.
With an academic background in journalism and economics, I’ve found myself marinating my experience working for established media outlets like NPR and Dow Jones, with what I see and do daily in Southeast Asia and beyond. In August 2018, I will be joining my fellow Schwarzman Scholars at Tsinghua University in Beijing to further my study in international affairs. Any free time I have is spent on the Mandarin feminism podcast “The F Word” I founded, which has mounted more than 10,000 subscribers and 500,000 downloads.
