Learning by playing, future schools in China and Finland. Invitation 26.11.2014

Both the Finnish and Chinese school systems undergo changes as society rapidly experiences large scale technological development. Children spend an increasing amount of time in front of computers. As society is changing, school will need to change too. The transformation can be seen especially through technology. Technology enters the class rooms on an increasing scale.

A student-centred system is used in Finland and teachers can decide fairly independently on teaching methods in their class rooms. Researchers from the University of Helsinki and Peking University explore what both school systems can learn from each other.

Digital video stories and gaming in the class room

The Future Learning theme will be presented in the Science in Dialogue event on the 26th November in Beijing, as also the use of digital story telling in learning. Students from schools in Finland and Beijing have observed their own environment and filmed short video clips on positive aspects, and also aspects that need to be developed. The stories can be shared through the MoVie digital which is a platform for creating and sharing collaboratively produced video stories.
